Student Testimonial on GRE PrepTestimonial from Mr. Arun Ganesh
Arun Ganesh is a Mechanical Engineer from SRM Engineering College, Anna University, Chennai. He worked for a couple of years with a leading India IT organization and then took his GRE. He has got an admit from Georgia Tech - MS Industrial and systems engineering for the program beginning in fall 08.

"After my undergraduation in mechanical engineering, I wanted to pursue my graduation in the US . Also already having taken the GRE and getting a very mediocre score I realized that only a high score would give me chances of getting into a university of repute.

After consulting my seniors and friends I joined Topgre. Most test takers(including me) tend to concentrate only on the Barron's wordlists for the verbal ability section and think that they are ready to take the examination once they are done with it. I realized this grave mistake only after attending the verbal classes that there is something beyond the wordlists.

For example during my first attempt I was completely astounded on reading through the RC passages. The verbal classes helped me in the understanding of the synonyms of the words, their appropriate usages and how could I use it in a sentence. This especially helped in the AWA section, which again I feel is another section that would throw in a lot of surprises for the test takers. The reading comprehension classes gave exposure on a variety of topics ranging from philosophy to biotechnology that helped me in improving my reading skills . Also I learnt techniques using which I was able to discern important areas in the passage and the probable questions that could be asked from them.

The data interpretation and the comparison questions are important when it comes to the quantitative ability section. The class worksheet problems and the ones in the study material, I feel are more than sufficient to master these areas. I did not refer to any other sources and I felt that the quantitave section during my actual test was a cake-walk.

The most important phase of my preparation for the GRE was 2-3 weeks before the test date during which I started taking simulated tests. This is the time I had many doubts and the faculty were very quick to respond to all my queries. I was taught very important test techniques like time allotment for questions in a computer adaptive test which I believe helped me a lot.

I comfortably managed to finish the test with enough time to spare and still get a score of 800 in the quantitative ability section with all 28 questions correct and 670 in the verbal ability section with 23 out of 30 questions correct. Thanks to TOPGRE!"
